Rochester -The Island of pillars
Rochester is inspired by the basaltic columns of Staffa, a small volcanic island formed by eruptions which occurred some thousands years ago, located off the Scottish coast in the Atlantic Ocean. Staffa means "island of the pillars" or "melodious cave" in Scottish, and refers to the many basaltic cliffs plunging into the sea and forming in some places sea caves.
The unique beauty of these basaltic pillars, and the sound of waves in the cave of Fingal in particular, have inspired the composition of the famous symphony "The Hebrides" among others.
Rochester will bring to your walls, a unique contrast between the strength of basalt and the softness of its texture eroded by the waves.
